Rules

Welcome the 2006 Marvel League! This is a huge event, and is a lot of fun. Here’s how it works: 16 people (you guys) will PM me or post in the thread saying you want to do this. After we have all 16 participants, the draft will begin. In random order, you will choose 1 character at a time to join your team. After 1 draft round, a new one will begin, in reverse order. After all the teams have been chosen, you will be split up into 4 divisions, with 4 people in each.

Here is how the teams/draft will work: Each team is allowed to have 120 points. To fulfill these requirements, you draft characters with a point value that adds up to 120 or less. So if Team A picks a powerhouse, they will have fewer points to spend on the other members of the team. Team B could pick a bunch of weak, 10-15 pointers, and have a very large team.

All Marvel characters (dead or alive) are allowed in this tournament. The exceptions are those that are either too powerful or have vaguely described powers.

Regular Season
The 16 teams will be divided into 4 divisions. It takes two loses to be knocked out of the tournament, so you will play at least 2 random teams in your division. A win receives 1 point, a tie 1/2 points and a loss none. After the teams have played each team in their division, the top three teams will move onto the next round. If teams have an equal number of points the team that won the head to head battle will be ranked higher. If that does not break the tie (both teams tied each other in H2H battle), then the team with the higher overall vote differential will be ranked higher. If that does not break the tie, both teams will have a sudden death match.
Playoffs
In the 2006 edition of the League, NYC and Genosha are in the X conference, while London and Madripoor are in the M Conference. Note: The divison you are in does not affect your team's characters, strategy, or anything else. It is just an easy way to divide the teams.
Matches here will be random across conferences, with the lowest scored person in each division playing the highest scored one in another for the first round. After you have two loses (including any in the regular season) you are knocked out of the tournament.
Battles

Battles are scheduled, and each team will fight once a week. Prior to each match players will send their team's strategy to the league administrator (Nightcrawler), who will post the fight on the CBR Marvel Universe board. A team that does not submit a strategy will forfeit the match and their team will be opened to anyone that wants it outside on the League. If the player that forget his/her strategy has a good explanation of why they missed their deadline (computer failure, etc.) then they will be admitted back in. However, a second failure will consitute them being kicked out. The strategy should be sent the day before the scheduled match to ensure that the administrator receives it.

Using a public poll forum visitors will vote for the team they feel will win based on the given strategies. After 24 hours the team with the most votes will be considered the winner. Team owners are allowed to vote in their own matches. If the votes are tied, a draw will be called.

Strategy

The teams will be fighting until the opposing team cannot continue. Team members will be assumed to be fighting in character. For example Sabretooth can be written using lethal force, but Artie would not be. The fights will take place in a flat, barren field, and teams are allowed to carry into the fight whatever equipment they normally have with them. They begin the fight 100 meters away from the opposing team and in clear sight of the other team. Players can not leave the boundaries of the area. Beyond that use your imagination.

A note about imagination: Strategies will be judged on believability and creativity. While there is a great deal of liberty how the match will play out, unfair tactics, like using Lila Cheney to teleport the opposing team into the sun are not allowed. One time feats done in the comics will be considered, but the ordinary feat levels demonstrated by a character will be more strongly weighted. Try to rely on information gleaned from primary sources (the comics) before secondary sources (guidebooks and websites). Ultimately not everyone will have an encyclopedic knowledge of the MU, just do your best.

After each fight team players are assumed to be revived and ready for the next match.
